The new RedRockMicro Encore is incredible..!

We have spent over a week running tests with the RedrockMicro Encore M2e, and i can not conclude otherwise, than to say that this is THE BEST dof adapter we have had our hands on since oktober 2008! Absolutely superb. The M2 brings CA-free, edge-to-edge sharp, vignetting free images  – something other DOF adapter manufacturers have yet seized to achieve. The images are very sharp, and the system loses very little light – around  just 1/2 F-stop.

We will start shooting next week for Birth of a Song, our 30 min. short for the Aids Fund, using the M2e, and i’m confident we will amaze you with the resulting stills and footage clips.

Karl and i will be posting stills of our rig here soon.

Cheers! I’ll get back to you all after may 17th.

The Letuses lose around 1/2 a F-stop too, so that’s not so very special…

I have seen all the Letus models since the very first one, and believe me; in practice not a single one get’s away with just 1/2 F-stop. Maybe the Ultimate scores below the 1. I must admit that it is not all that easy to measure light (-levels) within the half F-stop range, but the RedrockMicro Encore is VERY light (or should i say FAST).

    Hey Martin.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind. I’ll definitively go for the Red rock Encore if i have saved-up the money. You gave me some very clear views there.

    Hey Martin,

how far can you stop down with the Redrock Micro M2-Encore?
I have a Letus Extreme and it’s a desaster. Letus claims that you can stop down to 5.6 – but that’s a lie. At 3.8 you already start to see the grain. So what’s about the Encore?

Axel. Sorry for the late reply.
I start seeing grain with the Redrock M2E around somewhere between 5.6 and 8, depending on the type of lens. Wide lenses seem to promote the effect.
Since i want to reduce the depth of field (that’s why we buy these things, agree?) i seldom dial down to 5.6. I keep F4 as the limit. But sometimes you don’t have a choice – i know. I must say that the speed of the Encore’s ground-glass is so high, that the element has only shown up once in my shots with F8, equally lit surface (blue sky) and the EX1 shutter switched on (180 deg.). All in all, it performs much better that the Letus in that respect.
